Online Reports on CES 2007 and T.H.E. Show

There are five sources of almost-real-time CES and T.H.E. Show reports linked on our current home page. After following them for the past three days it looks like the Stereophile resource is the best one. They are adding reports and pictures on the fly throughout the day as opposed to the other sites, which are posting reports the following day. Also, two of the resources are focusing on more than just the audio aspects of the show. This is not a bad thing but be aware that you may be seeing reports on products that may not be of particular interest.

If others out there have found other sources of on-line reports - particularly if they are audiophile oriented - we would like to hear about them.

CEDIA 2002 Show

Audiophiles familiar with CES and T.H.E Show, either from actually having attended or from reading about them in magazines or on the web, know that the audio high-end has its own venues, usually seperate rooms in which one or two manufacturers will exhibit. So there's lots of opportunity to hear music even though the conditions are usually sub-optimal. CEDIA, on the other hand, is more like a traditional trade show with booth exhibits on the floor of a large convention center. In fact, most of the audio-oriented displays are static. Nothing is plugged in. A second major difference: CEDIA is mostly about Video. Audio-alone exhibits are few to none. But still, its a hellava lota fun!

Since the show was on the ASM's home turf this year, we had a chance to visit, schmooze, and take pictures (and maybe recruit some possible guests...?) Here, in no particular order and without much rhyme or reason, are some photos of audiophile interest.

Cantus Session 2002

In march of 2001 John Atkinson recorded the male vocal group "Cantus" at Carlton College in Northfield Minnesota. Earlier that week John, and Wes Phillips, had been guests of the ASM. John and Wes later published an extensive article about this recording session in the January 2002 issue of Stereophile magazine. The CD from this session, entitled "Let Your Voice Be Heard'," has sold very well and led naturally to a second opportunity for John to record the group again.

This second recording session took place during the week of March 18, 2002, in the beautiful Chapel of the Good Shepherd on the campus of Shattuck St. Mary's School in Faribault, MN. John and Cantus were kind enough to let us come and take some pictures of the session.

The CD from this session is expected to be released late in the summer of 2002. As more information becomes available, we'll post it here on the ASM website.
